An article appeared in the BBC recently saying that Technology does not increase a student's performance. This of course is quite true - technology alone can not increase a student's performance, however, technology in the hands of a great teacher can; a teacher who has a good understanding of teaching and learning pedagogy can make a huge difference in supporting and extending learning for his/her learners. I think it comes down to teachers ensuring that they use their learning outcomes to carefully design a learning experience for the students; learning tasks that will allow students to engage actively and purposefully, help them to make connections with previous learning and to get an overview of the bigger picture. A well designed lesson will take assessment for learning and higher order thinking into consideration and a teacher will then be able to consider how tech could be used to truly transform and personalise the learning.
