Tech in Science Challenge

As part of my role as Digital Learning Coach I was asked to help run a session on Tech in Science at a FOBISIA JAWS workshop at school. Working collaboratively with the Science team we decided to make this a real hands on session, so that teachers could learn about the tech tools as they engaged in a Science related task - create a digital artefact to show your understanding of / in ..... with the learning outcomes being linked to a piece of work being undertaken in Physics, Biology or Chemistry. Tech must be used purposefully and authentically - this hour long workshop allowed teachers to place themselves in the shoes of their students, as they worked together to create a video, audio, presentation, image or quiz. They actively learnt about which tools would suit their students and their particular learning environment. We used Google Form for peer assessment and Answer Garden for final reflection.

I really believe that tech training should be a hands on exercise, one that allows teachers to try the tool out - in their teaching context - this will then allow for better integration of that tool into their practice.
