SpeedGeeking

Tech Tools shared by our Speed Geek presenters

Why: an opportunity for teachers to share their favourite tech tool for learning; building inhouse capacity; opening up learning with tech conversations as a whole school coming together in smaller groups

What: we asked for teacher volunteers - share a tech tool, why do you use it, how does it support learning

Where and When: school hall our first Tech PL Friday session

How: once we had a list of our volunteers, we asked the to complete a slide in the above presentation; this whole presentation was then emailed to all staff who had time to choose 6 sessions to go to, time to explore any links shared and thus come prepared to geek; we had a timer on the big screen, a countdown timer, music for 1 minute to reloacte post every 5 minute session; we ran 6 sessions and then staff went back into their teams to reflect and plan their next learning / teaching with Tech project

Follow up: overall very positive feedback from staff, some wanted the 5 minutes extended; an energising vibe in the hall on the day; many geeking for the first time and are now keen to present at the next Teach Meet; staff valued having time as a Team post geek to discuss and plan next Tech goals; prompt and actionable discussions; Tech Coaches will follow up with ongoing Tech Walks.

A really positive sharing, collaborative experience that will continue to support Teachers, empower Teachers and cascade good teaching and learning with tech practice across the school.

Change over after Round 1 of speaking to a Geeker

We decided to run a similar speed geeking session with parents after the success of the one we ran with teachers. We felt it was important for parents to get an understanding of the hows and the whys of we are using tech. Parents were introduced to the main tools: Gmail, Google Calendar, Zaption, Skitch, Explain Everything, Twitter, Kahoot, Rewordify, Text Compactor as we felt they needed an understanding of the some of the tech tools their son / daughter may be using at school.
